Camping Adventure Journals by Thomas J. Elpel & Friends
Looking for the adventure of a lifetime? Tom is always thrilled for the chance to get out of the office to go trekking some place new, and he loves taking people out to experience nature on its own terms, often with very little gear. Be sure to read through our various adventure journals, listed below.
Our canoe trips and walkabouts are not structured like classes, nor is there a fee to participate. It is just something we like to do with friends, family members, interns, and pretty much anyone else who is sufficiently physically fit and wants to come along. You are especially welcome to join us if you happen to be experienced in wildernes survival, nature awareness, and/or tracking skills, and you think you have something to contribute to the experience. Dear Mr. Elpel:
We want to say, "Thanks" for your dvd's and books. They are well written, easy to understand, and at an affordable price. Your dvd series; The Art of Nothing, and books; Participating in Nature and Living Homes have been a huge blessing to our family of 7. We bought them a couple of years ago and have just scratched the surface learning from them. The kids are practicing enough so we're able to enjoy more time together as a family out in nature - the parents are pretty much tagging along at this point... the Botany in a Day book has been helpful as we're vegetarians, so the killing of food has been a challenge - so far we've had success with finding and catching fish - enjoying eating them is another thing! We definitely want to learn more edible plant items!
Six of the family are out this weekend with only a few basic items to put their learning to the test! As a parent, I appreciate the sound knowledge that gives them a firm foundation, freedom and confidence to go on real life adventures without having to sell your right arm to buy tons of bright shiny equipment and without all the "hollywood" antics shown on many cable 'survival' shows.
Keep up the good work.
-- Nancy
